  • Orient Express will soon be taking guests through Italy on its sumptuous 12-carriage La Dolce Vita train to play golf at Italy’s most prestigious courses.
  • The “Northern Greens” and “Italian Swing” packages also include a dedicated concierge service and Michelin-calibre dining from three-star chef Heinz Beck.
  • But suffice it to say, you’ll need deep pockets to fulfil this particular slow travel dream…

Exploring Italy aboard an Orient Express destined for the country’s most iconic golf courses is nothing short of a match made in slow travel heaven.

The company behind the famously luxurious trains have recently unveiled two such dream itineraries created in partnership with the Italian Golf Federation (FIG). The only questions you’ll have to ask yourself now are “north or south?” and “how much?”

Departing from Rome this November, the “Italian Swing” package invites you to play at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club (host of the 2023 Ryder Cup), San Domenico Golf Club, The Club at Castiglion del Bosco, and Antognolla Golf Club (Italy’s only PGA-licensed facility) in the central/southern end of the boot. Think Apulia, Siena, and Perugia.

From the moment of booking, a dedicated concierge will attend to every conceivable trip detail – managing golf bags, arranging premium equipment rental, as well as selecting gear tailored to your needs, and even the “composition of each flight” as to ensure “harmony among players and a seamless experience on the course.”

Guests will also be accompanied by an “internationally renowned professional golfer” to enrich time on the course with expert guidance and bespoke masterclasses.

The “Northern Greens” package is similarly excellent. The only key differences? As suggested by its name, this option takes you northbound along Bresica, Turin, and Perugia – specifically to Marco Simone Golf & Country Club as the uniform starting point, Franciacorta Golf Club, Royal Park I Roveri, and Antognolla Golf Club – and doesn’t occur until May 2026.

Each four-day journey will showcase the very finest Italian hospitality.

One can expect gourmet dining curated by Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck and, of course, an impeccably furnished train. With 12 deluxe cabins, 18 suites, as well as the crème de la crème La Dolce Vita Suite, they’re accompanied by a lavish dining car with quite the glamorous bar for guests to kick back and drink in the refreshing scenery.

“The train becomes a travelling salon, where every detail is meticulously crafted to offer a breathtaking experience… time itself turns into art,” states Orient Express.
