I don’t have the facts and figures to back this up, but surely the steady procession of gritty British crime dramas we’ve been enjoying of late is some sort of record – a new golden era for a much-loved genre, with the second seasons of The Gentlemen and MobLand reaching explosive crescendos over the last month or so, and now the return of another modern must-watch, Black Doves.

With Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw back in the fold, and the trailer promising another spectacularly messy collision of espionage, politics, and London’s murky world of assassins, the second season looks set to be every bit as entertaining as the first.

We pick things up in the aftermath of last season's particularly bloody Christmas; the new series finds Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) in an increasingly precarious position: married to the inbound British prime minister whilst leaking government secrets to the Black Doves, the covert organisation she's been working for all along. It’s certainly not ideal.

A plot to undermine her boss’ standing within the Black Doves organisation means Webb must once again pair up with her lifelong friend (and trained assassin) Sam Young, played by Ben Whishaw. With the unlikely duo back together, they're forced to confront old enemies, question familiar loyalties and reckon with some rather uncomfortable decisions from their past.

Black Doves Season 2 premieres this Thursday, 5 November 2026, exclusively on Netflix, with all six episodes dropping on the same day.
