Japanese billionaire and founder of Zozotown, Yusaku Maezawa, has set the record for the most retweeted tweet in the history of Twitter.

The billionaire, who was named late last year as the guinea pig for SpaceX's first mission to loop around the dark side of the moon, promised 100 randomly selected users one million yen ($12,800 AUD) each to whoever followed and retweeted the tweet.

The tweet, which you can see below, featured a New Year’s gift card with visuals that jokingly referenced E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in Japanese and his upcoming jaunt in space.

Currently, the tweet has been retweeted over 5.4 million times, with the previous record holder being Carter Wilkerson who tweeted about getting free Wendy's chicken nuggets.
