- Sydney’s Next Door and The Gidley, alongside Melbourne’s Charrd, have ranked in the World’s Best Burgers list (2025 Edition).
- Presented by World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants, this marks a national improvement from last year, wherein The Gidley was the sole Aussie representative at ninth.
- Valencia’s Hundred Burgers currently occupies the #1 spot, dethroning London establishment Salt Shed (Shoreditch).
For a continent of 26 million, Australia certainly punches above its weight on the international stage when it comes to athletics and cuisine.
Now, just months after 17 of the world’s top steak restaurants were revealed to be Australian – and Sydney was named the global steak capital – the World’s Best Burgers list for 2025 has given us another trio of diners to brag about.

This year, the highest-ranking result for our sunburnt nation is all thanks to Neil Perry’s American Cheeseburger at Next Door (#10) – the pared-down sister venue of the legendary Margaret, Double Bay.
The latter of which, incidentally enough, was recently acknowledged as the world’s second-greatest place for a steak, according to the aforementioned steak restaurant rankings.
“For the cheeseburger at Next Door, we take CopperTree Farms’ beef – a mix of brisket and chuck – grind it daily and hand-form the perfect 160g patty,” explained Perry (via TimeOut).
“Cook it to medium, and serve it with melted American cheese, rose mayo (spiked with umami and tomato sauce), onion and pickles in a milk bun, with the option to add fresh chilli and bacon.”
“Only the best ingredients.”
Next door was followed closely by The Gidley (#12), which returns to the list three spots lower than in 2024.
Available at both the venue in question and Surry Hills’ The Rover due to popular demand, its burger unpretentiously sandwiches the following ingredients between a delectable milk bun:
- Handcrafted double beef patties sourced from Liquid & Larder’s in-house butchery (located at sister venue Alfie’s) cooked medium rare
- Mature cheddar cheese & dill pickles
- A tangy secret sauce
- Optional (but encouraged) perfect fried egg & bacon
The antipodean dining scene’s third and final ambassador in the 2025 World’s Best Burgers list is none other than Charrd, Melbourne.
Having quickly established itself as a hot-off-the-grill newcomer in the very heart of Brunswick East (it only opened in July), this otherwise unassuming burger joint operates on a philosophy of mastery within simplicity.
The menu only offers two options: a classic burger with onions and pickles, and the Charrd signature with truffle aioli, chilli jam, and caramelised onions – both available with a single or double patty (as well as the almost obligatory side of fries); both already commanding a cult local following that’ll likely become international.
