- A century-old corner of the Emerald Hill precinct in South Melbourne will soon welcome else BATHHOUSE.
- History aside, itโll feature saunas, thermal baths, cold plunges, open-air rooftop pools, along with an alpine cabin, mud and steam room, as well as lounging areas.
- Should the maiden else BATTHOUSE prove to be a success on Bank St, the mountain town of Bright, High Country, will be next to receive a location.
All along Australiaโs east coast, the domestic bathhouse boom has shown zero signs of slowing in every conceivable direction.
Over this past year, Melbourne alone has welcomed the likes of Soak Bathhouse in South Yarra, the seventh Nimbus Co outpost in Fitzroy, and THERAPY in Eltham; while the cityโs cult Saint Haven prepares to open a luxe Sydney counterpart.

The new kid on the block thatโs recently earned our attention, however, is else BATHHOUSE. Heritage-listed address and all.
Coming soon to Bank St in the Emerald Hill precinct โ one of Melbourneโs oldest suburbs, for the uninitiated โ this forthcoming wellness sanctuary is moving into a space that once thrived with wool trading and the Croftโs grocery empire.
From the timber beams, wool bale pulleys, and exposed brick, to the vintage lift shaft and murals, founder Paul Absalom & Co. have ensured that remnants of the buildingโs past have been tastefully preserved. And nor has it exactly hindered the installation of else BATHHOUSEโs decidedly modern amenities.
Expect cold plunges, saunas, vitality + mineral pools, open-air rooftop pools with an unobstructed view of the Melbourne city skyline, along with an alpine cabin, mud and steam room, and lounging areas.

โWe wanted to offer something that would help people unwind and take care of themselves, a peaceful space woven into the rhythm of local life. Bringing else to South Melbourne felt natural,โ said Paul Absalom.
โElse is about presence, itโs about slowing down and stepping away from the noise of everyday life.โ
Else BATTHOUSE is scheduled to officially open sometime in April 2026 on Bank St, South Melbourne โ keep an eye out here for further details and imagery. If all goes to plan, a second flag will be planted in the mountain town of Bright, High Country.
