Host With The Most
Let’s face it: more people are spending time at home than ever before, but we’re starved of the proper hosting etiquette of yore. To fix this, last night I was treated to a preview of the newest addition to Sydney-based COMMAS’ relaxed lineup. In collaboration with Woodford Reserve, they’ve constructed a sand-coloured linen dinner jacket, aptly named the Host Tux. Made for wearing when you want to impress, but not overdo it, it’s a tonic to any smart casual fit found wanting.
I’m particularly fond of the shawl collar and tie-up combo, like a modern smoking-jacket primed for late night snickering conversation over a whiskey. A Mini Moonwatch
Omega has given its Speedmaster 38mm line a significant design refresh, bringing the mid-size chronograph much closer to the iconic Moonwatch aesthetic. Departing from the softer oval subdials and oval date windows of previous iterations, the updated references feature crisp circular chronograph counters, a squared-off date window (or dateless on the black dial variant), and a bolder bezel complete with the classic "dot-over-ninety" tachymeter scale. Venetian Dolce Vita
Hotel Danieli reopened on 26 August as Danieli, A Four Seasons Hotel – three interconnected palaces on Riva degli Schiavoni, between the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, closed for more than three years for a restoration led by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. It's the same building that's operated as a hotel since 1822, now handed from Marriott's Luxury Collection to Four Seasons. 120 rooms and suites at reopening, a rooftop restaurant looking straight across the lagoon, and a second phase in 2027 that takes the total to 176.
A change of management doesn't usually make a hotel worth writing about – but the Danieli's location is genuinely envious, and Four Seasons taking over the oldest continuously operating hotel address in Venice is as close to a changing of the guard as luxury hospitality gets. Rooms run from around $1,700 a night depending on category, bookings open now.
Keeping It Brief
If you’re on the hunt for a briefcase, duffel, or sling bag, there’s no better than vintage. The Mulberry Sydney QVB store has just built a pre-owned shelf with a rotating stock of bags across men’s and women’s styles. Because most people equate the brand with women’s styles, you’re guaranteed to have much less competition for the duffels and briefcases. The 70s heritage brand is definitely known for its quality, being the biggest luxury leather goods manufacturer in the UK. QVB stock gets authenticated and restored at Mulberry's own Somerset repairs centre before it's allowed back on the floor – so worth swinging by to see if they have a briefcase with your name on it.
