Following the unprecedented demand for Kiaโs EV6 which debuted last year, the South Korean automaker is preparing to launch its next white-hot EV in Australia by the last quarter of 2023. As a direct challenger to the Toyota LandCruiser 3900 Series and Y62 Nissan Patrol, the 2023 Kia EV9 will offer Aussieโs an all-new large electric SUV which is understood to feature a seven-seat layout and a number of different wheel configurations.
While the vehicle has so far only been seen in concept renders and camouflaged spy photographs, Kia has confirmed the car has undergone a gruelling series of off-road tests during its nearly four-year development process. From 4WD climbing hill and deep-water wading tests to high-speed handling trials, Kia is positioning the new EV9 as the brandโs flagship model.
The specifications are yet to be confirmed by the brand, but the EV9 is anticipated to feature the same 800-volt E-GMP chassis and electrics as the EV6, with a battery capable of 400kms between charges. In an interview with CarSales, Kia Australiaโs product manager Roland Rivero confirmed the price of the 2023 Kia EV9 will be around $90,000, stating, โweโre aiming for a number to start withโฆ a higher eight.โ
