- Japanese helmet maker Shoei has revealed the GT-Air 3 Smart helmet with a built-in heads-up display.
- The new technology was developed in collaboration with the French company EyeLights.
- The Shoei GT Air-3 Smart is currently available and costs โฌ1,199 (AU$1,860).
Shoei has unveiled the first motorcycle helmet with a visor-mounted head-up display, developed with French AR specialists EyeLights. The GT-Air 3 Smart helmet displays key data in the top-right of the riderโs field of view including speed, turn-by-turn directions, and incoming calls.
EyeLights reckons that keeping your eyes up and on the road โ rather than regularly glancing down at your speedo or phone for directions โ the GT-Air 3 Smart helmet can improve reaction times by more than 32%. Crucially, this isnโt a bolt-on science project, with the nano-OLED projector, rechargeable battery, mic, Bluetooth headphones, and wiring all fully integrated from the factory to keep a sleek profile and Shoei fit.

Thereโs a communication unit that runs online or via mesh intercom for group rides, it plays nicely with Siri and Google Assistant, and it feeds off a companion app on your phone for navigation, GPS-accurate speed and messages. Underneath all of this new tech, you still get a proper Shoei, which meets both DOT and ECE 22.06 certifications, while the shell, comfort, and aerodynamics remain on point.
Perhaps the only downside to the Shoei GT-Air 3 Smart helmet is the price, with it set to cost โฌ1,199 (AU$1,860). If youโve been riding for a while, youโll know thatโs a solid chunk of change, especially when most brands recommend replacing helmets every five years.
However, if you ride big distances (or are getting a bit older and have noticed your reaction times slowing a touch), Shoeiโs visor HUD looks like the smartest lid on the market.
