- Charlie Woods, son of Tiger, has walked away from Bowling Green, Florida, with his inaugural American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) victory.
- At the recent Team TaylorMade Invitational, the 16-year-old fired a final-round 66 to finish 15-under, securing the win by three shots.
- The rising star defeated some of America’s most promising young golfers, including his generation’s anointed “chosen one,” Miles Russell.
The cub certainly doesn’t stray far from the Tiger as Charlie Woods, son of the 15-time major winner and golf’s most prolific name, claimed his maiden American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title with a three-stroke victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational.
On the Black Course at Streamsong Resort, the 16-year-old prodigy began the final round a single shot behind overnight leader Luke Colton. He’d eventually notch two bogeys, eight birdies, along with a quartet of consecutive pars for a six-under-par 66 (bringing him 15 under on the week).
Woods prevailed against an incredibly strong field of junior golfers – most notably beating Miles Russell, the young player universally regarded as the one to watch among the nation’s coming generation of golfing talent.
Title and physique progression aside, Charlie Woods has been on a steady rise.
Prior to this, his best result on the AJGA circuit was T25 at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley back in March; and earlier this month, he’d failed to qualify for the US Open. But on a technical note, his game is beginning to distinguish itself in a junior ecosystem largely defined by one’s ability to make pars. Even more remarkable is the fact that he only started taking this sport seriously a few years ago (albeit with the greatest possible mentor you could ask for).
Woods is currently expected to leapfrog from 606th to within the Top 10 in the AJGA rankings.
Only time will tell how high Charlie Woods will soar. Though in the unlikely event these next few years prove to be his athletic peak, we still foresee an absolute bag from NIL contracts in his exceedingly promising destiny. Life-changing money under normal circumstances; perhaps less so in the context of the Woods family.
All eyes will certainly be on the incoming Class of 2027 when the time comes. Let the college scholarships roll in…
