- World No.2 and recently crowned career grand slam winner, Rory McIlroy, has officially committed to competing in the next two editions of golfโs Australian Open.
- Set to be hosted in Melbourne for both 2025 and 2026, itโll mark the first occasion McIlroy has played in the tournament since 2014 (a year after he won his Australian Open title).
- โThe success of the Australian Open is important for the global game, and Iโm incredibly confident it will thrive again this year,โ said Rory McIlroy.
The last time Rory McIlroy touched down on our sunburnt shores for the Australian Open was in 2014. Despite the fact heโd taken home the W just a year prior, the Northern Irish phenom would finish a disappointing 15th while 21-year-old Jordan Spieth hoisted the Stonehaven Cup.
But over the course of 2025 and 2026, McIlroy will headline the tournament โ scheduled to be played at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club on the Melbourne Sandbelt and the nearby Kingston Heath Golf Club, respectively โ as a five-time (potentially more) major champion and career grand slam winner.
โIโm proud to be committing to the Australian Open for the next two years, especially with it being played on the world-class Melbourne Sandbelt, somewhere Iโve always wanted to play professionally,โ McIlroy said in a statement.
