  • To celebrate his brand new green jacket, TaylorMade is making Rory McIlroy’s custom-spec P730 “Rors Proto” irons commercially available.
  • These same irons have been personally used by McIlroy since 2017 and have been a constant source of intrigue for the better part of a decade.
  • These bad boys will only be available to order from May 1st to May 15th with a price tag of $2,600.

In 2017, the world’s eyes fell upon fresh TaylorMade signee Rory McIlroy as he debuted his custom set of P730 “Rors Proto” irons.

Since then, he’s won 18 PGA Tour events, completed the vaunted career Grand Slam after notching that elusive victory at Augusta National – and in honour of the seismic achievement, you can now purchase what is essentially a piece of golfing history with the TaylorMade P730 “Rors Proto.”

Available for a limited window of May 1st to May 15th, these irons offer everyday golfers a chance to wield precision tools that have proven their merit on the sport’s grandest stages.

Crafted from buttery-soft 1025 carbon steel through a meticulous multi-step forging process, the RORS PROTO irons are designed for players who demand control and feedback, with a horizontally-milled channel in the back cavity to separate mass on the vertical axis for precise inertia and trajectory control.

Their compact and sleek blade profile, thinner toplines in the short irons, as well as reduced offset, which obviously reflects McIlroy’s own preferences (honed over the years against elite competition). Notably, the irons also feature TW2 grooves – borrowed from the P7TW model favoured by Tiger Woods himself – which enhance inertia, spin, and trajectory control.

“They’re a beautiful set,” Rory McIlroy previously told Golf Digest.

“I’ve traditionally been a muscleback blade guy my whole career, and they’re beautiful. The irons I had before, the topline was maybe a little thick, but these are thinner on top and have a little less offset, and they look really good to my eye and feel great.”

A subtle yet meaningful touch is the four coloured dots beneath the “FORGED” stamp on each club’s hosel, commemorating McIlroy’s aforementioned quartet of major victories.

A set of 4-iron through pitching wedge will set you back $2,600, and can even be customised through TaylorMade’s platform to dial in on your own specifications. As noted by GolfWRX (via PGA Tour), Rory McIlroy’s personal Project X 7.0 shafts might be a bit stout for the general audience, but the right fit is on hand for those who still want to experience the iron heads that the man himself uses.

Orders placed within the release window are expected to ship in September 2025.
