These days, you’d struggle to find a watch brand that doesn’t have a list of ambassadors attached to it, seemingly content to make a few appearances here and there and pose for the camera.

But after meeting Rado CEO Adrian Bosshard in Melbourne recently, brimming with pride as he introduced Australian cricketer Cam Green and Grand Slam champion Ash Barty at the brand’s first boutique in Australia, I discovered a brand that champions the people who represent it, putting them at the heart of everything it does – particularly here in Australia, connecting Rado’s reputation for precision, durability, and material innovation with athletes who have performed at the highest level.

As Bosshard explained, Rado is growing in Australia. No doubt, having local heroes like Green attached to the brand offers consumers a tangible connection to the pursuit of performance both on the cricket field and in Rado watches. But it’s buoyed by the right combination of the right ambassadors, products, and materials to reach an increasingly engaged local audience.

Now, this celebrated partnership comes with its own reference: the Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Green Limited Edition, a new release that celebrates a specific milestone in the cricketer's career while bringing the colours and iconography of the sport into one of the Swiss watchmaker's most recognisable collections.

Limited to 459 individually marked pieces to commemorate Green’s Test cap number in Australian cricket, the new 42mm Rado Captain Cook draws on Australia's national colours with a rather handsome sunray-finished green gradient against the gold accents through the PVD-coated bezel, crown, and two-tone bracelet.

But rather than simply sticking Green’s signature on the back and calling it a day, Rado worked with the cricketer to incorporate several visual cues that connect the timepiece to his sport and national colours, like the gradient across the dial that resembles the cricket pitch, three yellow dots at the 12 to represent the stumps, and a minute track around the flange that captures the stitching of a cricket ball. Even the brand’s iconic anchor logo has been given a cricketing update.

Turn the piece over to reveal Rado’s automatic calibre R763, a modern introduction to a collection that can trace its lineage to 1962, featuring an 80-hour power reserve and an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring for improved accuracy.

Rado has also gone one step further for this sporting partnership, too, equipping this limited edition reference with the brand’s EasyClip strap-changing system. It allows owners like Green to effortlessly switch between the two-tone rice-grain-style stainless steel bracelet, a green-and-yellow textile NATO-style strap and a black rubber alternative. Perfect for a day out on the pitch.

The Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Green Limited Edition (ref. R32138318) is limited to 459 pieces worldwide and priced at $4,700.
