  • TAG Heuer has continued its F1-focused releases with the debut of two new models inspired by three-time champion Ayrton Senna.
  • The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna references include one with an automatic movement and one powered by a quartz movement.
  • The quartz-powered reference is a limited edition of 3,000 examples and has an RRP of CHF 2,550; while the automatic reference is non-limited with an RRP of CHF 5,550.

Weโ€™re nearing the end of the year, but TAG Heuer isnโ€™t done just yet, unveiling two brand new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna references that pay tribute to the legendary driver.

Less than a year ago, the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based watchmaker announced it would return as the official timekeeper of Formula 1. And already, weโ€™ve had a slew of F1-focused releases, including five new Formula 1 chronograph references, the hotly anticipated revival of the time-only Formula 1 collection, and arguably the best of the bunch: the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph F1ยฎ.

Now, TAG Heuer is celebrating one of the most beloved drivers in the history of motorsports, Ayrton Senna, who claimed three Formula One World Driversโ€™ Championships and 41 Grand Prix victories during his near-mythological 11 seasons behind the wheel.

Debuting at this weekโ€™s Sรฃo Paulo Grand Prix โ€“ the former home race of Senna โ€“ one of the new watches is a truly modern chronograph, powered by the automatic chronograph Calibre 16; the other is a throwback to TAG Heuerโ€™s S-shaped bracelets and quartz-powered timepieces of the 80s/90s.

Focusing first on the automatic TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna reference, we have a black DLC grade-2 titanium sandblasted case that measures 44mm in diameter (14.3mm thick) and is paired with a forged carbon tachymeter fixed bezel that reads โ€œSENNAโ€ at one oโ€™clock.

On the caseback, thereโ€™s an engraved image of Sennaโ€™s eyes looking through his helmet visor. On the dial, the six oโ€™clock subdial is lacquered in the yellow, green, and blue of his helmet. Flaunting a bright yellow rubber strap, itโ€™s bold, sporty, and unapologetically contemporary.

The second reference is a nod to the quartz-powered chronographs that were so popular during the years of Sennaโ€™s racing career, featuring an era-appropriate steel bracelet with the legendary S-shaped links. The case is brushed steel and measures 43mm in diameter (12.4mm thick), boasting a fixed aluminium bezel with the same โ€œSENNAโ€ text and caseback engraving as its sibling.

Likewise, it also features the same yellow, green, and blue helmet-inspired stripes on the six oโ€™clock subdial. A few unique details include the date window at 4:30 and the large, blocky Arabic numerals around its surface. With the neo-vintage-inspired bracelet, subtle nods to Sennaโ€™s racing career, and its limited run of 3,000 pieces, this is one for the true fans of both TAG Heuer and F1 from their retro heyday.

โ€œAyrton Senna was not only an extraordinary driver, but a symbol of precision, performance, and passion,โ€ said Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer, in a statement.

โ€œThis new collection captures those qualities with daring design and mechanical mastery. Sennaโ€™s spirit continues to inspire us.โ€

The limited edition quartz-powered reference is priced at CHF 2,550, whereas the non-limited automatic reference has an RRP of CHF 5,550. Available now from select TAG Heuer boutiques.
