Iโve been saying โItโs a big year for Vacheron Constantinโ since January (when the Genevan watchmaker announced the Historiques 222 in steel). And with its final release here, I can confirm 2025 has been one of its finest in decades.
For most brands, releasing an iconic design in steel alone wouldโve made it a memorable year. The 270th anniversary celebrations of Vacheron Constantin, however, offered much more.
Highlights included a suite of anniversary special edition releases, complicated Overseas references with new dial colours and extraordinary complications, the La Quรชte du Temps automaton clock, as well as a collection of piece unique watches.
But despite debuting a veritable smorgasbord of incredible new watches, thereโs a strong argument to be made that they saved the best till last โ because these two new Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin references are a remarkable achievement.
Why? Theyโre among the smallest perpetual calendar watches on the market today, with their white and pink gold cases both measuring a universally wearable 36.5mm in diameter and just 8.43mm in thickness.
For context, Audemars Piguetโs smallest perpetual calendar is 38mm, Jaeger-LeCoultreโs is 39mm, while IWCโs is 40mm, and even the vintage-inspired perpetual calendar of Japanese independent watchmaker NAOYA HIDA & Co. measures 37mm in diameter.
Patek Philippe is the only watchmaker producing a smaller perpetual calendar today โ the ref. 7140 โ which measures 35.1mm in diameter. But at 8.55mm in thickness, itโs noticeably beefier than Vacheron Constantinโs latest releases.
This case size is possible thanks to the calibre 1120 QP that powers each new release; a movement that measures 4.05mm thick, comprises 276 components, and delivers a 40-hour power reserve. All in all, a pretty remarkable package, to say the least.
The new Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin references arrive with silver opaline dials, hands and hour markers crafted from pink gold, calendar correctors on the flanks of the case, along with a water resistance rating of 30 metres.
The caseback is closed with a sapphire crystal display, flaunting the movement within, and most importantly for those who appreciate Vacheronโs 270th milestone, watches produced in 2025 will feature an anniversary hallmark.
