For the frequent flyer, spending hours rummaging for a Qantas Classic Reward seat in Business Class can be a long and frustrating process – it’s bad enough trying to find just one, let alone two on the same flight.
Fortunately, Qantas has just announced the return of its popular Points Planes, expected to be a much bigger, year-round format for 2027, with dozens of dedicated flights scheduled throughout the year and approximately 10,000 additional Classic Reward seats up for grabs. Here’s what we know.

First introduced in 2019, Points Planes are designated flights on which every available seat, across all cabins, can be booked as a Classic Flight Reward.
The concept proved popular almost immediately, with premium cabin seats on its inaugural flight selling out within minutes, and particularly valuable for anyone sitting on a healthy balance of Qantas Points.
Ordinarily, Qantas controls how many seats are made available for points redemptions, meaning an aircraft can have plenty of empty seats while its reward inventory is already exhausted. Points Planes removes that headache entirely, allowing members to redeem points for any remaining seat on the selected services.
Qantas has revealed the first destinations, including Tokyo, Paris, and Hobart, with Qantas promising further international and domestic routes throughout 2027. The programme is also expected to encompass 10 return journeys, or 20 individual flight sectors, with destinations including Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Vancouver also in the pipeline.
Tokyo
Qantas is offering services from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to Tokyo on 5 January 2027, with return flights on 12 January. Business Class redemptions start at 82,100 points one-way, based on the Brisbane-Narita service.
Paris
The European offering includes QF255 from Sydney to Paris via Singapore on 22 February, and QF34 from Paris to Sydney via Perth on 18 March. Premium Economy starts at 124,700 points (plus $435) one-way.
Hobart
For a domestic escape, Qantas will operate Points Planes from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to Hobart on 12 January, with return services on 19 January. Economy redemptions start at 9,200 points one-way, based on the Melbourne-Hobart route.
The catch, of course, is that you'll need to be quick. Bookings for the first 2027 Points Planes opened at 9 AM AEDT on Friday, 6 November, and close at 11.59 PM on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Travel dates are fixed, and taxes, fees, and carrier charges remain payable on top of the required points balance.
Qantas says this is just the beginning, however, with further domestic and international destinations to be announced throughout 2027. Happy hunting.
