  • Aman Rosa Alpina has officially opened its doors, welcoming guests into the very heart of Italy’s UNESCO-protected Dolomites.
  • The storied and beloved site re-emerges after an extensive reimagining by Aman from the ground up, crafting a ski-centric mountain retreat genuinely like no other.
  • From design and location to dining, wellness, and outdoor pursuits, this is the place to be.

There are hotels where you stay. And then there’s Aman Rosa Alpina – where you willingly vanish.

Re-emerging from a deep design chrysalis in the charming village of San Cassiano, this historic alpine retreat has been resurrected under the rarefied Aman banner; a soft-spoken masterpiece forged in stone, snow, and serenity.

In a past life, it operated as Rosa Alpina and was helmed by the Pizzinini family since 1939. The grand old dame has now been recast through the lens of Aman’s signature restraint and reverence. The result? A mountaintop sanctuary that doesn’t scream for your attention, but wholeheartedly earns it.

“The opening of Aman Rosa Alpina is the realisation of a vision that has been years in the making,” says Vlad Doronin, Aman Group’s Chairman and CEO, who was once a guest himself.

What followed was a friendship with the Pizzininis and eventually, a shared ambition: to honour tradition, while injecting it with Aman’s intoxicating alchemy of quiet luxury.

“With its exceptional location in the heart of the Dolomites, we saw the opportunity to create a sanctuary that reflects both the heritage of the region and the essence of Aman. Rooted in our brand’s commitment to timeless design, intuitive service and transformative experiences, Aman Rosa Alpina now begins its next chapter.”

Credit for the transformation belongs in no small part to Jean-Michel Gathy – the architectural whisperer behind many of Aman’s greatest hits.

Here, Gathy’s work is elemental and elegant. Timber façades, dark metals and textured plaster frame a palette that shifts with the light. Floor-to-ceiling windows draw the drama of the Dolomites indoors, while glass fireplaces, soaking tubs, and walk-in wardrobes lend a hush of indulgence to each suite.

The real theatre, however, happens across the dining and wellness offerings.

Executive Chef Gianluca Salvato leads a culinary line-up that includes Il Salotto, a double-height haven for live music and aperitifs, and The Grill, a wood-fired tribute to the Italian Alps. Then there’s Akari, a sleek, shabu shabu (Japanese hot pot) experience opening just in time for winter. Naturally.

Meanwhile, the 1,684-square-metre spa is pure Aman: serene, soaring, and self-possessed. Think 20-metre heated outdoor infinity pool, Finnish sauna, Jacuzzi, cold plunge, and the kind of massage that could recalibrate your spine and soul. The Alpine Muscle Relief treatment alone is worth the journey.

Of course, it’s not all incense and introspection. With the Dolomiti Superski area just outside your door via San Cassiano, Aman Rosa Alpina turns into a ski-in-ski-out fantasy each winter with 1,200 kilometres of groomed slopes and 450 lifts. A butler handles your boots. A private lounge warms your bones. You handle the action.

And for the non-slopers, the hotel’s cinema rooms, teen clubs, and bespoke experiences offer more than enough distraction. But even when the slopes thaw, the magic holds. Hiking, mountain biking, golf at the nearby Alta Badia course, and alfresco dinners at dusk turn the warmer months into a different kind of pilgrimage.

They don’t call it a sanctuary for nothing.

Aman Rosa Alpina is now open, welcoming guests until October 12th, 2025, and again for the 2025-26 winter season (beginning December 4th, 2025). Rooms start from €1,218 (AU$2,200) per night. Find out more below.
