  • The World’s 50 Best Hotels rankings have been revealed for 2025, with two Australian properties celebrated among the globe’s finest.
  • Capella Sydney was the best-placed Aussie hotel, debuting on the vaunted list at 12th, while The Calile in Brisbane made the cut for a third year by earning 34th place.
  • Hong Kong’s Rosewood claimed the throne this year.

Just a month after a pair of Aussie watering holes received nods from the World’s 50 Best Bars, another two local names have been acknowledged by the World’s 50 Best Hotels for 2025.

Announced at a ceremony in London overnight, Capella Sydney debuted within the rankings at 12th place, while Brisbane’s The Calile came in at 34th overall for its third consecutive list appearance.

Capella Sydney

Effectively, Capella Sydney also represents Oceania’s top-ranked property around the world. For those of you who’ve never experienced the luxurious calm that descends the moment you cross its threshold, the antipodean outpost’s historic sandstone building is located in the CBD – boasting palatially proportioned, contemporary interiors, wonderful attention to detail, as well as impeccable service.

At 34th, Brisbane’s The Calile has slipped somewhat from the 12th place ranking it earned in 2023, and the 25th place ranking it earned last year. Regardless, it remains one of the very finest stays on the planet (hence the latest honour). Guests can expect pale stone, soft curves, natural light, and a location that enjoys a strong lifestyle precinct built directly into the hotel.

Overall for 2025, it was Rosewood Hong Kong that took out 1st place, followed by Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River and Capella Bangkok. Generally speaking, Asia dominated the latest iteration of the list with 20 hotels in the Top 50.

Unsurprisingly, Europe was another strong continental contender, with 17 entries of its own – topped by Passalacqua on Lake Como at 4th, which also claimed the title of Best Boutique Hotel.

Other highlights for 2025 included Royal Mansour in Marrakech, jumping 25 places to 13th (winning Highest Climber); Singita – Kruger National Park in South Africa, claiming both the Art of Design Award and 40th; along with Highest New Entry award recipient Copacabana Palace in Rio at 11th.
