Regardless of age, I think we can all agree that intricate LEGO build kits are always worth the time of day — like the 3,601-piece NASA Artemis Space Launch System.

In November 2022, an unmanned spacecraft embarked upon a 25-day mission around the moon. At the time of ignition, the 98-metre rocket became the most powerful vehicle to ever successfully take flight, advancing NASA’s Artemis program goal of returning astronauts to the lunar surface within the decade.

Now, you can own a bricked version of the very space launch system that made it all possible.

Included in the LEGO NASA Artemis Space Launch System set are retractable launch tower umbilicals, rocket support and crew bridge, detachable solid-fuel boosters and separating rocket stages; as well as a model of the Orion module with foldout solar panels, which can be stored inside the rocket or showcased on a separate display stand (printed plaque and all).

Once fully assembled, this impressively accurate 1:144 scale replica of the real-life launch system measures 70 centimetres tall with a width of 30 centimetres and a depth of 27 centimetres.

The conversation starter above has been announced in tandem with yet another potential addition to your home decor, one that’s admittedly a little more subtle: the 3,091-piece LEGO Art Milky Way Galaxy set.

The layered mosaic, which is designed to produce a 3D effect of “incredible depth and texture,” features some of the Milky Way’s most famous stars, clusters, and other spectacles: including Trappist-1, the Pleiades, the Crab Nebula, as well as the Pillars of Creation. The dimensions? Just 65 centimetres across.

As per the official press release from the Danish purveyors of bricked fun: “Today the LEGO Group unveils two new sets that allow space enthusiasts to go out of this world, by exploring the art of engineering excellence behind the human space missions to get a glimpse of what’s out there.”

The LEGO NASA Artemis Space Launch System will be available to purchase from May 18th, 2024 for $449.99; while the LEGO Art Milky Way Galaxy is scheduled to hit shelves on the same day priced at $299.99. Find out more below.
