It sounds like The Safdie Brothers are about to get another career-defining performance from Adam Sandler, the latter of whom has indicated their next movie โ apparently focused on the world of high-end card collecting โ will be based on an โinsaneโ and โgreatโ 340-page screenplay.
โTheyโve been writing this movie weโre supposed to do together for a couple years. They just write hundreds and hundreds of pages,โ Adam Sandler told The Hollywood Reporter.
โIโll read them and Iโll say, โI like the part when thisโฆโ And theyโll be like, โOh, thatโs not in it anymore. We did a whole other thing. Weโre going to send you a new draft.โ They just donโt stop writing and thinking and coming at every angle they can, and this movie weโre going to do is pretty amazing.โ
News of this forthcoming collaboration was initially broken by Indiewire, which buried the detail in a broader article about why Hollywood is failing to connect movie stars with the filmmakers they deserved. Since then, however, not only has the Hustle star himself gone on record to verify the claim, weโve learned that Netflix has agreed to both produce and distribute the final cut.

โTheyโre working hard on it. Their work ethic is bananas. Theyโre always working, always writing, always thinking,โ Sandler noted in a previous interview.
โI donโt know what I can tell you, but itโs gonna be very exciting. Itโs different.โ
โBut I donโt want them to ever say, โWhat the hell did you tell him that for?โ So Iโll just let them talk [about it].โ
Sandler added: โI love these guys, I love โem. I mean, theyโre incredible filmmakersโฆ Of course, I would die to work with them again, because itโs a brand new feeling. But the funniest thing is when I would say to the Safdies, โYour future is so bright,โ they didnโt want to talk about that. They were like, โI just like Gems, man.โ They just were so deep in it.โ
Finishing touches are currently being applied to the screenplay with plans to begin rolling cameras in the second quarter of 2023, likely making it Sandlerโs next project. Hopefully, the Sandman wonโt be robbed of an Academy Award this time around.
