In line with Netflixโs well-documented tendency to greenlight franchise expansions nice and early, less than three days after the premiere of Extraction 2, stuntman extraordinaire-turned-director Sam Hargrave and leading man Chris Hemsworth have revealed Extraction 3 is already in development during the streaming serviceโs annual Tudum event.
โGuess what? Between us, as friends, weโre already talking about Extraction 3,โ the Aussie star, who portrays black ops mercenary, Tyler Rake, told fans gathered in Sao Paulo, Brazil and live-streaming from home.
The notion of a trilogy completer isnโt exactly groundbreaking given the debut instalment was once Netflixโs most-watched original film with over 231.3 million hours viewed across the first 28 days on the platform; since overtaken by the likes of Red Notice, Donโt Look Up, Bird Box, Glass Onion, The Gray Man, The Mother, and The Adam Project.

But itโd be a lie to say we werenโt a little surprised at the rapid turnaround, at least from where weโre sitting. Especially in light of the fact that Chris Hemsworth was apparently looking to take a break from acting altogether after an Alzheimers-related health scare.
Produced by fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe alums Joe & Anthony Russo (the Russo Brothers), Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeeling โ among others โ Hargrave and Hemsworth have crafted what is essentially another Mission: Impossible-tier recurring cinematic event featuring headline-worthy action sequences as the centrepiece.
Extraction, which is based on Ande Parksโ graphic novel Ciudad, dazzled with an impressive 11-minute single-take action sequence. Extraction 2 upped the ante with an explosive 21-minute action sequence that actually involved setting Chris Hemsworth on fire (for realsies).
