Coming Soon
Ahead of its late-year arrival, Rian Johnsonโs Wake Up Dead Man (the third Knives Out film) now has a teaser trailer.
Following in the Agatha Christie-style mysteries of the past two movies, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is far from the calming beach where we left him at the conclusion of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, trading a flashy private island for a small town location centred around a chapel where another โimpossible crimeโ has been committed.
The suspects featured for this one include Josh OโConnor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, as well as Thomas Haden Church.
Initially, it was uncertain whether this trilogy-completer would close the book on the franchise, given that Netflix had only purchased the rights to two sequels for over US$400 million. But Johnson and Craig have since clarified that the gravy train will keep chugging along so long as they are both involved.
Wake Up Dead Man release date (international): December 12th, 2025, via Netflix.
In other cinematic universe news, Taylor Sheridanโs ever-expanding Yellowstone franchise has just welcomed Kurt Russell into the fold as a series regular for the upcoming Michelle Pfeiffer-led spin-off: The Madison.
For context, Pfeiffer stars as wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn, who moves her family from NYC to Madison River Valley, Montana, โin the wake of her husband and brother-in-lawโs tragic deaths in a plane crash.โ Suits alum Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Amiah Miller, and plenty more are also set to appear.
This spiritual sequel was originally to be fronted by Matthew McConaughey.
The Madison release date: late 2025/early 2026.
And finally, Tim Robinsonโs new HBO comedy series The Chair Company is almost upon us.
Co-created by the off-kilter talent of Detroiters and Friendship fame and his I Think You Should Leave collaborator Zach Kanin, the premise for this eight-episode affair involves a man who begins investigating a โfar-reaching conspiracyโ after suffering an embarrassing work incident. Which just sounds like vintage Robinson.
He stars as William Ronald Trosper alongside series regulars Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini, with Lou Diamond Phillips appearing as Jeff Levjman.
The Chair Company release date (Australia): October 12th, 2025, via HBO Max.
They Donโt Make โEm Like They Used Toโฆ
This week, Jonathan Glazerโs Sexy Beast turns 25. Which is all the excuse we need to revisit the British crime classic.
The perfect antidote to Guy Ritchie-esque pretenders like the recently released Caught Stealing, the story follows retired criminal Gary โGalโ Dove (Ray Winstone), whoโs visited by a psychotic former associate, Don Logan (Ben Kingsley), and coerced into taking on a bank robbery in London.
It isnโt hard to see why Kingsley copped an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor with this one. It also isnโt hard to see how director Jonathan Glazer (Under The Skin, The Zone of Interest) has enjoyed the career that he has, given that this was his feature-length debut.
