With the first two seasons of Netflix’s The Witcher and HBO’s The Last of Us fresh in our memories, we were feeling rather optimistic about the Fallout series destined for Amazon Prime Video. Now that we’ve received an early preview via first-look gallery… we cannot bloody wait.

From the Vault Dwellers’ costuming and the Brotherhood of Steel’s imposing live-action presence to Walton Goggins’ transformation into The Ghoul (courtesy of prosthetics extraordinaire Vincent Van Dyke), the video game adaptation has already been garnering major praise. And we’re inclined to agree.

The images published today also tease Ella Purnell as Lucy — a young, naive Vault Dweller who wanders from the safety of her irradiated shelter to venture forth into the post-apocalyptic world; Kyle MacLachlan as Hank — Lucy’s father and “overseer” of Vault 33; plus Aaron Moten as Maximus — a wannabe soldier and fresh-faced squire for a Power Suit knight from The Brotherhood of Steel.

The Fallout mythology is set in a post-apocalyptic world sometime after a seismic nuclear conflict between the US and China during an alternate timeline’s WWII.

Fast forwarding to the 21st century, resources are scarce, civilisation as we know it has collapsed, and there are now threats at all sides in the form of countless factions (as well as countless mutated species).

Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series will apparently be an entirely original story set in Los Angeles; and also be considered a canonical addition to the existing game franchise. The official synopsis is as follows:

Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.

The forthcoming affair has been developed by husband-wife duo and Westworld creators — Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan (brother of director Christopher Nolan) — with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner signed on as series showrunners.

Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, and Aaron Moten are joined onscreen by Xelia Mendes-Jones, Mike Doyle, Moisés Arias, Johnny Pemberton, Cherien Dabis, Dale Dickey, Matty Cardarople; alongside Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Rodrigo Luzzi, and Annabel O’Hagan.

Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series is scheduled to premiere on April 12th, 2024 — check out the first-look gallery above and below; stay tuned for updates.
