16 years since the Malcolm in the Middle finale hit airways, former child star and series lead Frankie Muniz has revealed co-star Bryan Cranston is currently in the process of developing a reboot.
When prompted about revisiting Malcolm in the Middle during a recent interview, Frankie Muniz hinted at the possibility of a modern day revival.
โI know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and heโs kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling,โ Frankie Muniz told Fox News.

โSo, there might be something. I would be down 100%.โ
โWhen I was filming the show, I obviously was a kid. We did seven seasons, 151 episodes. I didnโt really watch the show when it was on, but Iโve now since watched the show with my wife.โ
โWe [watched] all 151 episodesโฆ I realised, โWow, thatโs what we were making.โโฆ I can separate myself from being on it and watching it as a fan. I would love to know what the familyโs up to.โ
Last year, Bryan Cranston revealed that he almost turned down the iconic and career-defining role of Walter White / Heisenberg in Breaking Bad due to Malcolm in the Middle-related commitments.
โ[In 2006] Fox said, โKeep the sets up. We might do an eighth season of Malcolm in the Middle. And everyone was like, โYeahhhโฆ thatโd be great,'โ said Cranston.
โIn late April and early May, they called, when the upfronts are going on. They said, โNopeโฆ we had a very good pilot season. Thank you guys, you did well. Youโre on your own.โ So we thought, โAhh, thatโs too bad.โโ
โLater that month, I get the call to go see a guy called Vince Gilligan. โDo you remember him from X-Files?โ โKinda.โ โHe wants to see you about a new project called Breaking Bad.โโ
Cranston added: โI read it and I thought, โOh my god this is amazing.โ I met with him. He said, โI want to turn Mr Chips into Scarface and I think youโre the guy to do it.โ We shot the [Breaking Bad] pilot in February and March of 2007.โ
โSo had we got that eighth season of Malcolm in the Middle, I would not have been available to shoot that pilot and someone else would be talking to you.โ
โIt is absolutely my belief, I dogmatically believe this, that a career in our business cannot be fully realised without a healthy dose of luck sprinkled throughout.โ

Bryan Cranston, of course, famously portrayed Hal Wilkerson โ a different kind of devoted father to Munizโs titular Malcolm โ alongside Jane Kaczmarek as the abrasive wife and mother Lois, Christopher Kennedy Masterson as streetwise eldest son Francis, Justin Berfield as dim-witted juvenile delinquent and second-eldest son Reese, plus Erik Per Sullivan as the savant of a youngest child Dewey.
Across the sitcomโs original seven-season / 151-episode run, which occurrred from 2000 to 2006, Malcolm in the Middle earned the hearts of global audiences, widespread critical acclaim, as well as 94 different award nominations (winning on 29 occasions); 33 of which were for Primetime Emmy Awards (winning on seven occasions).
