Your First Look Inside Chris Hemsworth’s Byron Bay Mega Mansion

— Updated on 3 February 2022

Extensive renovations on Thor actor Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky’s epic Byron Bay property have been underway since 2016, but this week Hemsworth revealed the first sneak peek at the interiors of the AU$9 million mansion.

Sharing the progress on Instagram, Hemsworth posted a gallery of an amazing mural painted on the entry hallway. The huge wall painting was created by local Indigenous creative Otis Hope Carey, who’s also one of Hemsworth’s favourite artists.

Entitled Darrundang Gaagal (“thanking the ocean”), the impressive artwork includes long black lines that ripple across the wall, representing dancing feet, along with blue circles expressing the ocean.

Had a big empty wall that needed some love and was beyond thankful to have one of my favourite artists @otishopecarey help out!Darrundang Gaagal (Thanking The Ocean). Artist Otis Hope Carey, painted this mural which focuses on representational imagery of the ceremonial dancing of the Gumbaynggirr people, weaved together with traditional forms in thanks to their totemic spiritual emblem ‘GAAGAL’ (Ocean). Long shifting black lines ripple across the wall demonstrating the power and energy emanating from dancing feet stomping into the ground. Blue circular line work is painted over the top throughout the composition in reference to the Ocean in an act of thanks for its healing powers and all that is received from it. In this piece, Otis utilises traditional symbols and imagery in grandiose scale in a display of contemporary practice and thought ??

Carey, who’s also a professional surfer signed to Billabong, creates art inspired by Indigenous history and culture, particularly the Gambayvnggirr people. It took Carey a number of weeks to complete the mural, with the artist taking to his own Instagram account to share some additional photos of the piece and thank Hemsworth for commissioning his work.

Along with the hallway mural, Hemsworth’s mega-mansion is set to include six bedrooms, a gym, steam room, spa, media room, games room and the piece de resistance, a 50m rooftop infinity pool with ocean views.
