Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming second season of The Diplomat. While the teaser for the critically acclaimed political drama is light on plotting, it features two major revelations (and some mild spoilers for Season 1).
We see US ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) arriving at an unknown shindig, arm-in-arm with her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), having seemingly survived the car bomb cliffhanger that closed out the first season. The trailer also gives streamers their first look at the oft-mentioned but yet-to-be-seen US Vice President Grace Penn, played by Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya).

Created by Debora Cahn, whose previous credits include Homeland, Greyโs Anatomy and The West Wing, the first season of The Diplomat aired in April 2023.
Russellโs performance as Kate has been critically acclaimed across the board, scoring her multiple award nominations, including the Golden Globe for โBest Actress Television Seriesโ (Drama) and Emmy for โOutstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Seriesโ.
She won Best Actress in a Streaming Series (Drama) at the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards. The show itself received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series (Drama).
