Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford may pack a punch, but nothing hits as hard as a Saudi-bankrolled payday – just ask the former and his recently revised net worth.
The Netflix-streamed showdown between the modern greats, held at Nevada’s Allegiant Stadium during Mexican Independence Day weekend, was certainly one for the books with plenty at stake.
#1 pound-for-pound ranking aside, an aging Crawford climbed two whole weight divisions to risk his undefeated professional record after a lengthy 13-month layoff, while Alvarez put his unified super middleweight title on the line (the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO belts; plus an exclusive strap created by The Ring).

After 12 rounds, Crawford would walk out of the ring with his 0 intact thanks to a surgical Unanimous Decision victory, in addition to becoming:
- the first male boxer to reach undisputed champion status in three different divisions during the “four-belt era” (light welterweight, welterweight, super middleweight)
- the first boxer to hold The Ring magazine belt in four different weight classes (lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, super middleweight)
- one of just six male fighters in history to ever capture titles in five divisions (lightweight to super middleweight)
- as well as one of just three to ever claim the lineal championship in four weight classes
But don’t feel too bad for Canelo. As much as this was a loss, it only added to his Hall of Fame-worthy legacy. And nothing makes the taste of defeat that much more palatable than a cheque amounting to “at least” $150 million from His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh (AKA Turki Alalshikh).
“No, you get the number wrong. The contract between us and Canelo [is] more than that,” said Al-Sheikh when a reporter suggested Alvarez’s guaranteed purse was only $100 million during a pre-fight press conference.
“I’m doing it for the opportunity, baby, the legacy. The legacy outweighs the money,” Terence Crawford remarked of his own comparatively paltry $10 million cut elsewhere (via Ring Champs with Ak & Barak podcast).
Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford represented the second bout outlined in Alvarez’s blockbuster four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, Saudi Arabia.

Canelo Alvarez Net Worth: The road to fortune
Prior to Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Forbes estimated his net worth was at least $275 million; having most recently come in at #22 for the publication’s highest-paid athletes rankings with an annual take-home of around $80 million from the year prior.
Given both the imprecise metric of “at least” $150 million from the Crawford fight under his Riyadh Season contract – which certain pundits actually place closer to the $200 million benchmark – along with factors such as agent/management fees and taxes, the present-day valuation of Canelo Alvarez’s net worth is approximately $500 million.
Inspirational from someone who quite literally brawled his way out of rural poverty, and famously earned $40 (or 800 pesos) per bout once upon a time.
“They actually only paid me half of that,” Alvarez recalled while in conversation with The Guardian.
“The other half was in tickets. I gave all the tickets to my family, so I came home with 400 pesos. It seemed a lot.”

The DAZN Contract

The eye-watering agreement with Riyadh Seasons isn’t exactly the first blockbuster, multi-fight contract Canelo Alvarez ever signed.
Fresh off that decision victory against Gennady Golovkin in their rematch, he famously inked an 11-fight, $365 million deal with DAZN circa 2018 (perfectly timed as HBO, Alvarez’s former broadcast home, was exiting the boxing business by year’s end).
Of course, this would eventually fall apart due to an entire litany of disagreements between Canelo and the broadcast partner, as well as his then-promoter Golden Boy Promotions – escalating to lawsuits and a personal feud with the latter’s Oscar De La Hoya. Hence the GGG trilogy fight that never materialised.

Other Business Ventures
Over the past few years, Canelo Alvarez has launched a petrol station franchise in western Mexico dubbed Canelo Energy, alongside an associated chain of convenience stores known as Upper.
That joined a portfolio that previously included boxing and entertainment-related entities like Canelo Promotions and Canelo Espectáculos, a fitness app in I Can, plus a clothing line through his online Canelo Store.
Much like many successful athletes at the top of his field, Canelo Alvarez has also enjoyed a diverse range of sponsorships (current and past): Hennessy, Under Armour, Michelob Ultra, Dolce & Gabbana, DoorDash, Everlast, Tecate, and Swiss watchmaker Roger Dubuis.
A Car & Watch Collection Sweeter Than Cinnamon
Because at the end of the day, similar to his mansions and other undisclosed parcels of real estate, these are essentially investments.
As an avid car collector, Canelo Alvarez owns a Ferrari LaFerrari, Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, Shelby Mustang, Mercedes-AMG G 63 6×6, Rolls-Royce Ghost, for some reason, a Tesla Model X, and a handful more that may or may not have been sold since the last reports.
You’ll also find “several motorcycles” in his garage, ranging from Harley-Davidsons to Ducatis.
