The rampantly popular Succession has begun its fourth and final season and while the HBO hit has been a coupe for the cultural conversation around truly luxurious clothing and “stealth wealth,” the series has also showcased more than its fair share of great watches. With just a single episode to go and as you’d expect from a clan of billionaires, there’s been a number of cracking watches spotted on the wrists of the Roy family and its inner circle.

From the usual suspects of Audemars Piguet and Rolex to the everyday reliability of IWC, there’s been something interesting on the wrist of almost every character we’ve seen in the episodes so far. Perhaps the pick of the watches bunch for season 4 of Succession is the unmistakable profile of Richard Mille, a watchmaker synonymous with blue-blooded cash and created in such limited quantities that if you spot one out in the wild, you know it’ll be a long time until you see the next.

Interestingly, some of the characters have also switched up their go-to watches for season 4 of Succession, with prop master Monica Jacobs’ eagle eye for detail coming to the fore. These changes are ripe for speculation around the development of each character and with a resume that includes The Wolf of Wall Street (where Leonardo Dicaprio’s character wore an unmistakable gold TAG Heuer Professional 1000), none of Jacobs’ decisions are made at random. Let’s get into the best watches of Succession in the final season 4.

Kendall Roy

Succession Season 4 Watches

In a sign of the times within Succession, Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) has made a serious upgrade in his choice of watches for season 4. After previously having been spotted wearing the stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711/1A sports watch and a discontinued Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle World Time, the eldest son of Logan is now rocking a Richard Mille.

While the Nautilus was a perfectly suitable piece in the watch collection of a titan of industry such as Kendall, Patek Philippe is undoubtedly a classically styled and thoroughly traditional watchmaker, even if the ref. 5711 is one of its more contemporary designs. Arguably the golden child within the world of contemporary ultra-high-end independent watchmaking and luxury watches, Kendall’s Richard Mille (which I believe is a Richard Mille RM 67-01 Extraflat) foreshadows a changing of the guard within the family. Price: approx. $300,000

Roman Roy

For much of the previous three seasons of Succession, Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) has been a Rolex man. As dependable as ever, he’s almost always been spotted wearing a classic Rolex Datejust ref. 116200 (naturally, with Roman numerals) but while the Datejust remains a staple, he’s mixed things up in this latest season. Price: approx. $12,000

Succession Season 4 Watches

In an interview with prop master Monica Jacobs about the watches of Succession for season 4, she explained his new timepiece was a way of “Roman spreading his wings in a way,” and with the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XX on his wrist, we understand exactly what she’s talking about. With a classic blue dial, easily legible Arabic numerals and a comfortable leather strap, it’s a timepiece that fits well within the hierarchy of the family while also making a statement about Roman’s growing independence. Price: $8,400

Siobhan “Shiv” Roy

Succession Season 4 Watches

Siobhan “Shiv” Roy (Sarah Snook) has also switched things up in this latest season, offering a subtle message about the state of her marriage without sacrificing an iota of elegance or class. Always previously spotted wearing a classic Cartier Panthère (in alignment with her husband Tom’s Cartier Santos), Shiv is now wearing what I believe is a Chopard Happy Sport Limited Edition Automatic.

Keeping the same metal bracelet she clearly enjoyed with the Panthère, the Happy Sport is a classic design from an independent watchmaker known for its high-end jewellery too. While the Cartier was always going to be hard to beat, this pick from Chopard is another excellent update for season 4. Price: $16,900

Tom Wambsgans

Succession Season 4 Watches

Just as Shiv has moved on from her Cartier, so too has her husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) as he switches out his Cartier Santos for another stainless steel classic. Clearly, there’s something of an emphasis on watches from independent brands in season 4 of Succession and Tom is now making his 41mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph look very good indeed.

A hot commodity within the world of watch collecting, the specific reference on Tom’s wrist appears to be the blue dial with silver subdials that was launched first back in 2017 for the 20th anniversary of the collection. The two-tone chronograph dial will always be a great design choice and it’s no different with this Royal Oak Chronograph. Price: approx. CHF33 400 (AU$55,452)

Greg Hirsch

For the stumbling one-of-a-kind Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun), he’s picked a safe option for his timepiece and wears a classic Rolex Submariner with a black dial and bezel. About the furthest thing from a controversy that you can get in the world of watch collecting, the Rolex Submariner is a perfect reflection of Greg’s (AKA Cousin Greg) relative naivety in the high-flying world he finds himself. Price: $14,500

In later episodes, it’s also revealed that cousin Greg’s love of Rolex goes deeper, with him wearing an infinitely comfortable and quintessential Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710 “Pepsi”. Price: $15,350

Finally, while it’s not worn in most of the episodes of Succession season 4, Greg is also spotted wearing what I’ll bet is an IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph ref. IW388102, joining Roman in enthusiasm for the Schaffhausen-based watchmaker. Price: $12,800

Karl Muller

Karl Muller (David Rasche) is Waystar Royco’s dependable Chief Financial Officer and as you’d hope from the person managing your money, has a somewhat conservative taste in watches. On his wrist is a Cartier Tank Louis Cartier in yellow gold with a contrasting black dial, which was one of our favourite releases from the French-founded watchmaker last year. Price: $20,500

Stewy Hosseini

Complicated, yet unambiguously classic, the timepiece on the wrist of Stewy Hosseini (Arian Moayed) is another thoughtfully selected watch that matches his personality and character well. As far as complicated dress watches go, season 4 of Succession has Stewy wearing an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar in white gold, paired tastefully with a leather strap.

It’s far from a small watch, measuring 44.2mm in diameter, but with the 52615 calibre inside that only needs adjustment one day every 577.5 years there’s a certain gravity that arrives with anyone wearing such a specific timepiece. Accurate, incredibly forward-looking and with enough juice to last a full week before it’ll stop ticking, the IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar is another clever addition to Stewy’s character. Price: $67,600

Logan Roy

Last, but most certainly not least, is the family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). While the Logan Roy character has the most significant impact on the family in the first few episodes of Succession season 4, there’s a reason I left his watches till last.

That’s because, despite prop master Monica Jacobs mentioning Logan wearing classically styled watches from both Jaeger-LeCoultre and Carl F Bucherer, I can’t for the life of me find the exact reference that he’s wearing for season 4 of Succession. Scenes, where his watch is actually visible, are few and far between and from the brief moments where it is visible you can see what appears to be a thick white metal watch with a tourbillon window at 6 o’clock and Roman numerals on the dial.

However, nothing perfectly matches either Jaeger-LeCoultre (which never typically uses Roman numerals) or Carl F Bucherer (which always places the tourbillon at 12 o’clock). The closest resemblances are either the Glashütte Original Senator Tourbillon Edition Alfred Helwig, which doesn’t have the same lug shape, or the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Cylindrique, which is missing the Roman numerals. If you happen to identify the timepiece on Logan’s wrist, please shoot me a message on Instagram with what you’ve found.

UPDATE: Thank you to the folks who reached out with their suggestions, which included a Breguet Classique “Grande Complication” ref. 5317 and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous. While Logan has worn both Breguet and Jaeger-LeCoultre in previous seasons, I’m not sure it’s either of those suggestions as the Breguet has a very visible tourbillon bridge over its aperture at 6 o’clock and there isn’t a Rendez-Vous tourbillon reference that isn’t gem-set. Please keep the suggestions coming in!
