Miley Cyrus’ Malibu home was burnt to the ground while she was on location in South Africa filming Black Mirror season 5 — in a pad that was meant to be located in California.

When Black Mirror season 5 hit Netflix, none of the three new episodes really blew anyone away — nor did the most recent sixth season — however, the property featured in the Miley Cyrus episode certainly did.

But in a strange, Black Mirror-style plot twist, Cyrus has now revealed on TikTok that while she was strapped to the bed filming as Ashley O, her real-life house in Malibu (where the scene was supposed to take place) burned to the ground during the devastating 2018 Woolsey fire.

As part of her Used To Be Young series on TikTok, the pop star explained how the incident contributed to an “anxious vision” later in life.

“Like probably two or three years later, after this happened, I didn’t understand, but I would have this anxiety attack with a vision attached — that I would be strapped down to a gurney,” she said.

“So I would have these dreams any time I would go to perform.”

“I thought that was just an anxious vision that made no sense, but actually, as my house was burning down, I was strapped to a gurney with my hands locked in handcuffs, strapped to a bed.”

In ‘Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,’ Miley Cyrus portrays Ashley O, a young pop star (not entirely unlike herself) with a sinister Aunt/Manager. Throughout the episode, we’re treated to glimpses of Ashley O’s incredible home — which is meant to be a fixture of the Hollywood Hills — but was actually filmed on location in South Africa (show creator Charlie Brooker previously revealed it’s too expensive to film in America), in a suburb called Constantia, perched above Cape Town.

The Black Mirror Ashley O house is located on the prestigious Belair Drive on a huge 3.5-acre block with expansive views of Cape Town. The estate consists of a main house and pavilion known as ‘The Midden’ and stands at over 20,000 square feet with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. There’s a second property adjoining, known as ‘The Cottage,’ which is over 12,000 square feet, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and equally stunning views.

The property boasts three swimming pools: two outdoors and one indoors. The lap pool is located in the gym, which includes a steam room. A rectangular pool is set on the lawn, while the third pool with a fountain makes a splash beside the dining pavilion, where one of the key scenes of Episode 3 was filmed.

As the episode progresses, we see more of the expansive home but not a whole lot of its interior. Thankfully, this gallery from Mansion Global offers plenty more images. There’s no doubt director Anne Sewitsky dressed it up to make it look better than it does in real life, but it’s still a very epic space.

Check out the gallery below.

The properties were listed for sale individually or could be purchased together in 2016, with The Midden asking ZAR 115 million (AU$11 million), The Cottage asking ZAR 85 million (AU$8.13 million), and both properties for ZAR 200 million (AU$19.14 million)
