Formula 1 returns to Africa with Rwanda signing a 10-year deal to host an African Grand Prix from the early 2030s. Early renders show that they’re benefiting from a genuine blank slate, with the proposed 6km circuit near Kigali taking full advantage of Bugesera’s rolling hills, lakes, and natural undulations rather than simply throwing up barriers on city streets or repurposing an old airfield. It was designed by former F1 driver Alex Wurz and Tilke Engineering: a 17-corner layout featuring 197 metres of elevation change per lap, with Wurz already describing it as a potential classic and designer Carsten Tilke likening it to a rollercoaster.

If you're ever in Tuscany, you can't look past renting a classic car because life’s too short to hire a Ford Puma. Richard and his team at Tuscany Classics, based in Poggibonsi (halfway between Florence and Siena), have a serious fleet worth going out of your way to drive.I took an immaculate 280SL Pagoda for the day last month, but I also spied Jaguar E-types and a Ferrari 308 GTS in a succulent Ribena Red in the garage. Plenty to satisfy any retro automotive kink. While the Chianti hills are the most picturesque to drive, some of the tight roads might have you on edge driving such beautiful machines. I’d recommend a leisurely snake up to San Gimignano, and Castelfalfi further afield for lunch. The roads are about as good as Italy can get.
