We Actually Bought A Chery Omoda 5

Incredibly, after many years of driving hundreds of different cars all over the world, we’ve finally bought one.

Seriously. We signed on the dotted line, paid upfront in cash, and drove away from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in a brand new Chery Omoda 5 EX all the way back to our office in Sydney. A total of 1052 kilometres in just two days.

Why Melbourne, you might be thinking? Because the Chery dealership in the Mornington Peninsula was the first location to welcome a full fleet of Omoda 5 vehicles into the country, straight off the boat.

It also afforded us the unique opportunity to put more kilometres on an Omoda 5 than anyone else in Australia thus far, giving us the opportunity to cover a serious amount of Aussie tarmac and deliver to you, the consumer, all the information you need to know about the Omoda 5 from yours truly.

And why Chery? Yes, the automaker asked us to support their launch in Australia, by now that’s no doubt clear to you. But beyond that, when we saw the cars in the metal, they immediately had our attention.

We’re lucky enough to experience some top-tier premium vehicles here at Boss Hunting, and to us, we couldn’t quite believe how the Omoda 5’s chiselled aesthetics, premium cabin and first-class tech added up to its wildly compelling price point.

From $29,990 (before on-roads), the Omoda 5 BX is a serious entry into the Cross-SUV segment. For only a few thousand dollars more at $32,900 (before on-roads), the up-specced EX version we have in our garage could be the most feature-heavy car for the money right now.

Working backwards over the first thousand-odd kilometres we’ve since put on the clock, our team have concluded there are three key points of discussion anyone considering an Omoda 5 in Australia needs to know about.

They are design, technology, and value.

But first, let’s kick things off with why the Chery Omoda 5 looks just so damn good.

The Lucid Lines & Sharp Styling Of The Chery Omoda 5

Chery’s Omoda 5 design boasts a seductive profile and chiselled angles – an aesthetic package that punches well above its price point.

In-car technology is arguably the most important consideration when buying a new car. Nothing upgrades your daily driving more than a fully connected experience.

Dollar For Dollar, Is Chery’s Omoda 5 The Best Value Cross SUV In Australia?

The debut price of the Chery Omoda 5 in Australia has seriously ruffled some feathers in the Cross-SUV segment, but how does it compare?

Now of course Chery has made a splash with the Omoda 5, but that’s not where the story ends for the brand in Australia. A slightly more powerful all-wheel drive Omoda 5 is slated to arrive towards the end of this year, and an all-electric car has been promised for 2024.
