Enjoy the Great Barrier Reef from the comfort of your own submarine with Uberโs new ride share experience titled โscUberโ. This underwater travel option launches on May 27 and runs through until June 18, with people stying in Cairns, Port Douglas and Heron Island able to order a sub for a one hour tour of the natural wonder directly through the Uber app.
As you can imagine, ordering a submarine is a little more pricey than your standard UberX โ the experience for two will set you back $3,000. To be fair, the price isnโt too bad, because along with the sub ride of the reef, the cost also includes a helicopter trip to the launch point and a half-day snorkel tour.
Even better โ a portion of the proceeds are being distributed to Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, a community organisation dedicated to the preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uber have also said theyโll contribute a further $100,000 to the group.
โAt Uber, we believe good things happen when people moveโwhether thatโs by getting people from A to B in their city, or by making dreams come true experiencing the worldโs greatest natural wonder, the Great Barrier Reef,โ Susan Anderson, regional GM of Uber Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement. โWeโre looking forward to seeing how visitors to the Great Barrier Reef embrace this new form of movement and become advocates of the Reef for years to come.โ
If $3k is a little outside your budget, then you can enter a competition to win a free ride in the sub for two plus round-trip flights and luxury accommodation.
