Since 2011, DJ Tom Loud has been taking his fans on journeys that can only be described as a ‘Back to the Future’ style musical experience. The unique ‘Hot Dub Time Machine’ show has been apart of Sydney Festival, as well as having stops at the Enmore and The Metro, boasting a wide variation of genres and time periods. To Tom however, this variety isn’t anything special at all. “I guess it’s something I always did.” Loud said when we spoke to him. “I’ve been DJing since 2001, but I never found a niche. I never became a house DJ or a funk DJ or a Hip Hop DJ, because I didn’t like playing one genre I found that a bit boring.”

When talking about the pressures of conforming to one style of DJing, Loud offered a philosophy to support his tendencies. “As a DJ, and in any kind of thing in life, you can get a lot of pressure to do what other people do but if you really stick to what you believe in in life people will respect you for it and you can get opportunities”

He recalled a time he received that respect from one of his peers at a very prominent show. “When I played at the last Stereosonic a few years ago and everyone is playing banging EDM and I was on the same stage as Tiger-Lily and I started with Jackson Five ‘I Want You Back’ and did my usual stuff, played ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ and the place was going off. I saw Tiger-Lily and she said ‘I love how you just don’t give a fuck’”.

This love for all kinds of music has attracting a nationwide audience to his ‘Hot Dub Time Machine’ show which is going to hit wineries across the nation through March and April in Loud’s ‘Hot Dub Wine Machine’ outdoor festivals. Talking about the evolution from indoor to outdoor, Loud stated “it’s about making the experience better and more intense and different every time people come, so the step was to take it outside. And then you’re like woah you might as well make a day of it and people like Miami Horror and Paces. Those are the kind of bands that I’m into and we love just great Aussie Electronic stuff.”

The days filled with awesome tunes aren’t just for the usual festival goers either. “My audience when I play is kind of a diverse crowd. A large majority are under 25, but you also get people who are a bit older too, who come and have a dance cause it’s just good music and good times. And with the Wine machine you get a large amount of the same variety of people.”

The ‘Hot Dub Wine Machine’ shows will be in Huon Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley, Swan Valley and due to popular demand a Queensland show in Somerset Valley.

For those wondering what the show is all about, DJ Loud offered this “it’s all about dancing in the sun with wine.”

So grab your bottles of red or white and head down to the show near you for a day of chilled vibes.
