Ricky Gervais Is Returning To Roast The Golden Globes In 2020

Gather ’round the campfire, kids. Ricky Gervais has officially been confirmed to host the Golden Globes 2020 yet again. Though this will apparently be the “very last time” Gervais does so.

This marks the professional bridge burner’s fifth run as the award ceremony’s MC – and the fifth time we’ll get an opportunity to witness some sicks burns on some of Hollywood’s highest-profile individuals.

The thing about bridge-burning is when you know there’s no turning back, you’re bound to charge forward. And that’s exactly the kind of sentiment old mate Gervais has lived by. But at the end of the day, what else would you expect from the deadpan genius behind The Office

Gervais’ trademark cynicism and smile-while-I-stab-you-in-the-front brand of comedy will be a refreshing change of pace. Many have attempted to replicate the takedown artist’s legendary monologues, most recently that of Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh. But heavy lies the crown, as every single one of these attempts seems to have struggled to gain lift-off and fallen a bit flat.

In preparation for this scrumptious Sunday roast dinner slated for January 5th 2020, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to prepare a little appetizer of sorts – comprised of our favourite barbed one-liners. Enjoy:

  • “I love a drink as much as the next man… unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”
  • “I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner. Obviously… She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery… She didn’t do a lot for women drivers.”
  • “Our next presenter is the star of the hilarious comedy, The Martian… he’s also the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to. Please welcome, Matt Damon.”
