Chris Hemsworth made millions of fans around the world for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he caught the attention of millions more after playing a violent special forces mercenary in Netflixโs Extraction. Next year Hemsworth is set to return in the role of Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, which the first look promises โat least twice the actionโ of the relentlessly paced original instalment.
Extraction followed the journey of Tyler Rake, a former Australian SASR soldier turned elite gun-for-hire, as he attempts his mission to rescue and protect the son of an imprisoned international crime lord. With the best gun fights and hand-to-hand combat scenes weโve seen since The Equalizer or John Wick, Extraction was a balls-to-the-wall action thriller that ended with questions of if or not Rake survived his ordeals.
With Extraction 2, it seems clear that Rake did indeed survive his wounds and has traded the gritty streets and sweltering heat of Bangladesh for somewhere a little colder, as he leaves widows in his wake. The new film will trace Rakeโs latest mission to rescue the family of a Georgian gangster from prison, who has earned himself some serious enemies judging by the scores of paramilitary soldiers, helicopters and black sedans that Rake is up against.

โFor Extraction one, we had a major action scene that felt like one continuous shot. We call that a โoner.'โ says Sam Hargrave, the director of both Extraction films. โFor Extraction 2, weโre going to push that even further with a sequence more intricate and more extreme than before.
โIโm very proud of what weโve done. The end result is going to blow peopleโs minds.โ
Weโre yet to hear a specific release date for Extraction 2, other than we can expect its arrival in 2023. So in the meantime, enjoy the first look at the carnage set to unfold in Extraction 2.
