Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein have raised the bar for successful job interviews to lofty new heights after their heart-stopping audition for Final Destination 6.

The fellas behind 2018 sci-fi thriller Freaks and the live-action Kim Possible movie (lol) recently decided to give a few boardroom suits the scare of their lives. And in exceedingly appropriate fashion, considering the nature/reputation of the horror franchise at stake here.

“The duo were already in line to get the gig when one final Zoom pitch meeting became what some in Hollywood called the Zoom call to end all Zoom calls,” revealed Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter.

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein apparently pitched to New Line Cinema executives and producers with a burning fireplace in the background. As they were wrapping up, the fire “came alive” and the mantel began burning. Both filmmakers immediately sprung into action and, after a tense moment, extinguished the growing flames. But the gag didn’t end there.

As Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein sat back down, the entire meeting relieved whatever chaos that’d just occurred was behind them, a wrenching creak could be heard, before the still-spinning ceiling fan snapped from the ceiling, crashed towards the ground, and decapitated them.

Borys Kit added: “The execs and producers went from concern to all-out laughter. The bit – using a combination of pre-recorded footage and visual effects – had transitioned seamlessly and showed their unabashed enthusiasm.”

“It was, to all involved, the cherry on top.”

It’s worth noting that once upon a time, Adam B. Stein had been a segment director for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, meaning he probably has experience when it comes to staging viral hoaxes.

At this stage, plot details, casting, and a release date has yet to be announced for Final Destination 6. Guy Busick, who penned the latest Scream instalment, has written the screenplay this forthcoming reboot alongside Lori Evans Taylor.

Additionally, original franchise producer Craig Perry has returned, who will be joined in a similar capacity by Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Dianne McGunigle of FX’s Atlanta fame, and MCU Spider-Man Trilogy director Jon Watts.

Final Destination (2000) hit cinemas over 22 years ago and would generate $112.9 million in revenue against a $23 million production budget. To date, the five existing films have earned over $655 million at the global box office.
