N64 ‘GoldenEye 007’ Set For Fan-Made Re-Release In 2020

— Updated on 18 July 2022

GoldenEye 007 remains one of the greatest video games of all time, with the Nintendo 64 classic getting a much-needed upgrade thanks to 3D artist Ben Colclough.

The 007 fanboy has spent years of his life hard at work developing the game during his free time using the Unreal Engine 4, the same gaming engine used for popular shooters such as Fortnite.

Naming the multiplayer shooter GoldenEye 25, due to the fact it’s set to be released during August 2020, 25 years to the month Rare released the original, Colclough has kept the same maps and gameplay from the first game but on this occasion used high definition graphics and modern technology to appeal to present-day gamers.

This isn’t the first GoldenEye fan remake – the highly regarded GoldenEye: Source dropped a few years back. The difference between the two is GoldenEye: Source is purely a multiplayer game, while GoldenEye 25 will focus heavily on the famed single-player campaign.

While there’s a chance Colclough could face a cease and desist order from those involved with the original game, it seems very unlikely, with ex-Rare developer David Doak taking to Twitter to show his support, tweeting “Kyrgyzstantastic!” alongside a rocket emoji.

With the game just under a year away, Colclough has kept gamers interested with a stylish gameplay trailer centring on the ‘Silo’ level of the game you can check out below. Be sure to follow GoldenEye 25 on Twitter to keep up to date with the evolution of the game.
