World-renowned DJ, producer & Subliminal Records owner Erick Morillo has passed away at the age of 49.

As reported by Florida’s Local10 news, Erick Morillo was found dead on Tuesday (1st September) in his Miami Beach home – circumstances of his death are currently unknown. Morillo was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, having been arrested and charged with sexual battery in August.

Morillo turned himself into police in early August after the results of a rape kit tested positive for his DNA. He had previously denied accusations made against him surrounding an incident which occurred at his home in December 2019.

Best known for his 1993 track ‘I Like To Move It’ under his Real 2 Reel alias, Erick Morillo was a key figure in the 90s electronic community whose turbulent career throughout the 2000s saw him headline festivals one year and disappear the next. Despite this, his contribution to house music and veteran status in the industry saw him become an inspiration for countless artists, many of whom have paid tribute to him since the news broke.
