Television powerhouse HBO has announced the impending release of a limited five-part miniseries revisiting the worst man-made disaster in history, Chernobyl.

The catastrophic events of 1986 in the former Soviet Union have yet to be told in a true dramatised fashion (and are not to be confused with an array of awful horror films featuring the same name), hopefully making this HBO miniseries for some very compelling viewing.

On the night of April 26th, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine suffered a catastrophic meltdown and subsequent explosion that sent decades of radioactive shockwaves across the entirety of Eastern Europe. The dramatised series will follow Valery Legasov (Jared Harris) as the man whose assignment was to determine what caused the massive explosion. Those starring alongside Harris are Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgård, Ralph Ineson, Fares Fares and Adam Nagaitis.

The cautionary true story of man vs nature will premiere on May 6, just in time for the Emmys’ eligibility deadline of May 31.
