This is it. Look no further. As of today, you and I are no longer settling for any milquetoast DIY console packs, average portable experiences, not even this $270,000 game station we were drooling about just a few months ago… because Cranfield Simulation has dropped the daddy of all Formula 1 Simulator rigs. One that’s levels above anything we’ve ever seen and truly in a league of its own.

Leveraging the same technology used in military simulators designed to train fighter pilots, Cranfield Simulation has managed to engineer a full-motion simulator capable of recreating the conditions you’d be confronted with in the cockpit of an actual F1 race car – complete with the sensation of belting it 200 MPH and all the G-force that comes with it.

“Most simulators used in motorsport are little more than fairground rides,” says Ian Poll, Cranfield University Professor of Aerospace Engineering.

“This system, however, uses a variety of carefully tailored inputs to the body’s sensory system, and the driver’s brain interprets these to be the result of real accelerations being applied to the body. If the brain believes it, simulation becomes reality.”

In addition to its accurate feel, Cranfield Simulation has also taken the liberty to ensure every single-seat chassis is formed from a real F1 mould, positioning would-be drivers in the exact seating positions as real F1 drivers. As you will have noted from the images above, the steering wheel, pedals, and every other motorsport control also look and play the part, adapted to communicate with the rig’s software.

Here are the specifications for each level of rig:

How much will a Formula 1 Simulator from Cranfield Simulation set you back? That information is only divulged to those who reach out – i.e. the more serious buyers – which is generallt a pretty clear indication of when something is… pricey.
