- The archives of legendary late director David Lynch are set to go under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in Gardena, California.
- Presented in collaboration with Turner Classic Movies, the sale event is offering nearly 450 items ranging from coffee machines to annotated screenplays.
- The David Lynch Collection officially goes to auction on June 18th; with bidding open for participation online, over the phone, or in-person.
With a filmography that includes era-defining television such as Twin Peaks (which the BBC ranked as the century’s 13th best TV show); and classic films like Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Mulholland Drive, as well as the original Dune, David Lynch practically redefined what it meant to be a director with a cult following.
Following his passing earlier this year at the age of 78, no less than 441 items from Lynch’s archive are set to go to auction via the California-based Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies. Available online, by phone and in person, this one-off sale spans everything from rare film memorabilia to everyday household pieces, offering an intimate look at the filmmaker’s world.
Perhaps most representative of his career behind the camera is his personalised director’s chair. But a red curtain and zigzag rug styled in an homage to Twin Peaks promises to be the collector’s pick from the lots.
Even more exceptional is Lynch’s own 35mm print of Eraserhead, his breakthrough 1977 film; while fans of his furniture designs can bid on a red upholstered Womb chair by Eero Saarinen for Knoll and a vintage boomerang sofa that’s believed to have made an appearance in Lost Highway (1997).
Beyond these standouts, the auction features an array of everyday objects that reveal David Lynch’s creative quirks, including three Mr. Coffee drip machines, a snakeskin-covered manual camera, assorted musical gear, woodworking tools, and even a pair of his wingtip shoes.
Each lot provides a window into who Lynch was, spanning both professional and personal aspects of the director’s life. As the sale approaches, enthusiasts can explore the full catalogue at Julien’s Auctions, which is essentially providing a rare opportunity to own screen history.
Whether you’re chasing after memorabilia or simply curious about an icon’s offbeat interests, the David Lynch Collection goes live on June 18th.
