Porsche Has Made A One-Off Sally Carrera From Pixar’s ‘Cars’

— Updated on 30 January 2023

When Pixar released Cars in 2006, I don’t think anyone knew what was coming. Not only did it rake in over half a billion at the box office, it also set Disney up for one of the largest franchises in their illustrious history. Many characters from the animated film became cult-like characters the world over, but few were as popular as Sally — a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera.

In honour of Sally’s 20th birthday, Porsche has decided to make a one-off real-life homage based on a 2022 911 GTS. In classic Sally fashion, the car is being auctioned to help others: Girls Inc. and USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

The 911 “Sally Special” is as driver-focused as they come. The 473 horsepower twin-turbo, flat-six boxer is a tried and tested gem in its own right. When partnered with Porsche’s nanometre-perfect, 7-speed manual gearbox, Sally is quite the canyon carver.

While the exterior shape of the car is distinctively 992, the team have done a great job of making Sally look authentic. The paint colour is called “Sally Blue Metallic,” developed exclusively for the project and has even featured on the front and rear fascia, which is usually blacked out. Down below, Sally gets a set of 911 Turbo (996) design wheels, a one-off bespoke set developed by the Porsche design team.

The interior is filled with clever details by the Sonderwunsch Manufaktur team. Chalk leather and Speed Blue/Chalk stitching are a heavy feature with the Pepita seat inserts looking fantastic from every angle. Carpets are made of slate grey material, and the milled door sill guards feature an illuminated Sally Special emblem.

The most remarkable feature of the Sally Special, however, has to be the rebranding of the Sport Response button to “Kachow mode.”

The Sally Carrera Porsche goes under the hammer on August 20th via RM Sotheby’s and is expected to be in high demand from Porsche collectors.
