English football heavyweights, Liverpool FC, have today announced a very last minute trip down under for an exhibition match against Sydney FC.
Slated for May 24, the post-season game will be hosted at ANZ Stadium. This is the first time the English super club will have played a match in Sydney, previously making two hugely successful trips to Australia in the last four years, the most notable being the sell-out crowd at the MCG in 2013.
The last game of the season for the Reds is at home against Middlesborough on May 21st, so it will be a very tight turn around between games and preparing ANZ Stadium for the highly anticipated clash.
The club’s 125th anniversary also happens to be on June 3rd, making this game their closest to the milestone date. Liverpool FC ambassador Ian Rush said in his announcement that this celebration will be marked with activities in and around the game.
