The Anthology’s ‘5th Anniversary’ Collection Is A Guidebook To Wearing Tailoring In 2023

Over the past six months, you might have occasionally spotted me waxing lyrical in BH’s hallowed pages about the “modern classic'” menswear label better known as The Anthology.

The HK-based outfit have been a significant force in the region’s post-#Menswear marketplace for a few years now; but really began to hit its stride globally toward the conclusion of 2022 – piquing interest from European and North American sartorialists with a run of partnerships that go beyond the usual clichés of collab culture.

To wit: these include a Harris Tweed cloth developed in consultation with acclaimed street style photographer Jamie Ferguson; and more recently, a run of clean, razor-sharp tailoring that the brand has clad Bill Nighy in for much of the award-winning thespian’s Living press run.

The Anthology

The Anthology’s latest, however, is a decidedly solo affair. Accompanied by campaign images shot in London, the brand has just unveiled its 5th Anniversary collection: both a paean to the evolution of tailored aesthetics in 2023; and a celebration of The Anthology’s progress over the past half-decade.

With the notable exception of one makeshift black tie rig, you’re bound to notice the complete absence of any formal neckwear. Other archaic tropes of sartorial clothing (think flowery pocket squares and riotously coloured plaids) are also out, leaving behind styling cues that I think work exceedingly well for those who enjoy dressing with a view to longevity.

The Anthology

When you’re working with a visual vocab as familiar as that of tailoring; even small gestures – like layering a block stripe tee underneath a button-down – can feel like they have a magnified impact, as you’ll see all throughout The Anthology 5th Anniversary campaign images below.

Excitingly, the campaign is populated with styles that will be offered as part of what The Anthology calls its CORE ready-to-wear line: a range of “timeless, versatile, and practical” menswear that will be available year-round; doubling as a blueprint for the archetypal Anthologist’s style.

Just while I’ve got you here: a couple of our Boss Hunting approved standouts include the smartly shaped ‘Hartford desert boot (made exclusively by British shoemaker Crockett & Jones); the supremely underrated knit tee; and finally, Honey suit – a reinterpretation of The Anthology’s eponymous best-selling sportcoat, re-geared here in a Japanese cotton/linen fabric that will keep your wardrobe in good nick for three quarters of the year.
