With Baselworld just a month away, Grand Seiko has revealed four new additions to their ‘Elegance’ collection featuring a new manual wound calibre and a slim profile.

The new dress watches sport a hand-wound, Calibre 9S63 movement with three days power reserve residing in a modest 39mm case with a thickness of 11.6mm. On the dial, wearers will find a seconds subdial at 9 o’clock along with a power reserve meter at 3 o’clock, resulting in an unoccupied 6 and 12, leaving the gorgeous dials free of clutter.

Two of the four new Elegance models will feature the brand’s Urushi lacquered dial that is synonymous with a history of Japanese artistry. The result is a rare and beautiful watch face on behalf of Grand Seiko. The rose gold models, one of Amber (ref. SBGK002) and one of Jet Black (ref. SBGK004) will feature this artistic touch. As a result, both of these watches have been limited to just 150 pieces each. The cheapest of the beautiful bunch, the blue face with stainless steel casing (ref. SBGK005) will be limited to 1,500 pieces. Finally, a white face with gold casing (ref. SBGK006) is set to release in July and won’t be limited.

The SBGK005 is a real highlight.

All dials have been domed slightly with the hands inside shaped accordingly further accentuating the curvature of the cases. Enhancing the luxurious appeal of each offering’s case, the famous Zaratsu technique has been used to increase shine and clarity for each of the precious metals. Unfortunately, this perfect shine isn’t especially durable and can only be attended to in the Grand Seiko workshops of Japan. While some might consider this to be a fault in the Elegance design, others may deem it a necessary repercussion of using such delicate techniques in the watch’s creation.

Suffice to say, we’re looking forward to seeing these in the flesh!
