Swimming Through The Air: London’s First Sky Pool

— Updated on 15 June 2021

Not something you see everyday, developers in London are building what they claim is the world’s first “sky pool” — a 25-metre-long swimming pool suspended 10 stories in the air between two blocks of luxury flats. The Embassy Gardens project, on the south bank of the Thames will give residents exclusive use of the transparent pool some 35 metres off the ground.

Designed as a concept pool and resembling a giant aquarium in the sky, the development’s centrepiece is comprised of 20 centimetres of glass acting as a bridge between the two blocks of apartments.

Sean Mulryan, chairman and founder of project developers the Ballymore Group has outlined his desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering with Embassy Gardens —”We set out to create places and spaces that are more than just bricks and mortar. The pool is testimony to this philosophy and gives the development a unique character.”

Apartments are set to go on sale in September and they don’t come cheap, with prices starting at around £600,000. But with views including the London Eye and the Palace of Westminster, the pool doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint.
