Thanks to Taylor Sheridan, the rural American lifestyle has never been so appealing to desk jockeys like myself. Late last year, headlines were abuzz with the news that the legendary 6666 Ranches – featured in the upcoming fourth season of Yellowstone – had listed for over $460 million. This month, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding another sprawling US property known as Climbing Arrow Ranch – featured in the 1992 film A River Runs Through It, starring Robert Redford & Brad Pitt – which has hit the market with an asking price of US$136.25 million (AU$176 Million).

Believed to be one of the largest private undeveloped ranches in the Rocky Mountain West, Climbing Arrow Ranch is being offloaded by the Anderson family, who have been the sole custodians since it was purchased by one Buck Anderson back in 1959. Buck, for context, was the grandson of Frank B. Anderson, founder of the Bank of California. Yes… old money really does hit different, doesn’t it?

Located approximately 30 miles from Bozeman and spread across four counties, according to Mansion Global, the ranch is comprised of five separate, non-contiguous parcels totalling up to about 80,000 acres – one of the parcels borders ranches owned by media mogul and prominent landowner, Ted Turner.

Other notable features include the following:

  • irrigated hay meadows along the Madison River & limestone cliffs
  • massive herd of 2,000 commercial Black Angus cattle
  • abandoned railroad from the days of the Milwaukee Road (read: room for activities)
  • 7 modest ranch homes for staff (help with definitely be required given the scale)

The areas is also world-renowned for bull-elk hunting and trout fishing.

Those of you looking to snag Climbing Arrow Ranch for yourself best move quick. Multiple reports have indicated a prospective buyer has already been found after something of a bidding war, although the deal hasn’t been closed just yet.

“Since our public release of the listing of the Climbing Arrow Ranch, we have received an extraordinary response from the market, with multiple parties stepping forth immediately,” says Mike Swan, listing agent at Swan Land Company.

“We can confirm that the sellers have engaged with a prospective buyer who is currently conducting their inspections of the ranch.”

Should the sale be completed, this will also go down in history as one of the most expensive ranches ever sold in the US (current title holder: Broken O Ranch, bought by billionaire Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke for US$132.5 million back in 2012).
