Returning to the big screen for the first time since his Oscar-nominated performance as Jimmy Hoffa in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Al Pacino has chosen to do what Al Pacino does best in American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sallysitting in courtrooms and yelling about injustice.

Based on historical events, American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally is a legal drama which depicts the life of an American woman by the name of Mildred Gillars (portrayed by Meadow Williams) and her lawyer James Laughlin (Pacino) as they fight to restore the former’s reputation.

Dubbed “Axis Sally” by the public for broadcasting Nazi propaganda to American troops during World War II, Mildred’s story will apparently exposes the dark underbelly of the Third Reich’s propaganda machine, cover her eventual capture in Berlin, as well as the subsequent post-war trial surrounded her acts of treason against the United States (with the possibility of a death penalty on the cards).

“You are right now, at this very moment, the most hated person in America – eight counts of treason,” Pacino’s Laughlin can be heard saying in the trailer.

“I did what I could to survive… I had no choices,” responds Williams’ Gillars.

“Men have been taking advantage of me my whole life.”

The film has been directed by Michael Polish, with a screenplay adapted by Vance Owen and Darryl Hicks. Al Pacino and Meadow Williams will be joined by the likes of Thomas Kretschmann, Mitch Pileggi, Lala Kent, as well as Carsten Norgaard.
