It seems that in 2020, the greatest films aren’t the high-concept features – but the more intimate stories from smaller productions, richly textured with raw human emotion. I suppose it’s because when you take away the entire cinema-going experience, there’s not a whole lot you can hide behind. Not the sense of occasion nor grandeur of scale. And the upcoming boxing drama Jungleland starring Charlie Hunnam, Jack O’Connell certainly won’t be hiding behind anything.

The film will be centred on two brothers – Stanley (portrayed by Charlie Hunnam) and Lion (portrayed by Jack O’Connell) – who navigate the murky waters of underground bare-knuckle boxing. Lion is the fighter of the duo, whereas Stanley is the trainer.

When Stanley fails to repay a dangerous crime lord (portrayed by Jonathan Majors), they’re forced to deliver something quite unexpected to clear their debts, and journey across the country for a high stakes tournament. Obstacles ensue, bonds are tested.

Jungleland has been directed by Max Winkler (Ceremony, Flower), who has written the screenplay alongside Theodore Bressman (Future Man) and David Branson-Smith (Ingrid Goes West). Joining Hunnam, O’Connell, and Majors will be The End of the F***ing World star Jessica Barden and Fran Kanz.

Jungleland will have a limited release from November 6th and become available on-demand from November 10th. Watch the trailer above.
