Since starring in the role of Troy Barnes in Community, Donald Glover has gone on to become one of the most bankable creatives in the industry. So when showrunner Dan Harmon hinted at a movie based on the cult comedy, fans inevitably started to question whether or not the cast would even have the capacity to reunite for the project.

The biggest question mark hung above Donald Glover’s head. There’s little doubt the man once known as Childish Gambino has found the most success after Community ended its sixth and final season in 2015, springboarding off the popular sitcom with both a steady music career and a critically-acclaimed series (Atlanta, of course). Fans wondered if the man would be too busy to reunite on the big screen with Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs and his BFF Danny Pudi.

Well, it’s starting to look like those concerns have been put to rest. During a recent interview with GQ, Glover gave an obvious nod to his involvement with the Community movie, mentioning how the project was close to beginning production and seemingly confirming his return to Greendale Community College.

Earlier this year, Collider had already reported that Joel McHale and most of the crew had already been confirmed to return. He mentioned Brie, Pudi and Jacobs, along with Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. Yet, Glover and both Chevy Chase and Yvette Nicole Brown weren’t mentioned, adding fuel to the concerns that we wouldn’t be getting the full cast.

Glover’s absence would still make sense, however, since Troy did end up leaving the show ahead of its final season after the actor declined Harmon’s invitation to rejoin the crew. The door was, however, left open and it looks like Glover is ready to walk through it once again.

According to some reports, Community will begin filming in June 2023.
