  • After months of rumours, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that an F1 movie sequel is in the works.
  • The original F1 film was the highest-grossing Apple Studios film to date and the highest-grossing of star Brad Pitt’s career, also earning nominations for four Oscars at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards.
  • Bruckheimer confirmed he’s already speaking with Lewis Hamilton about the sequel, but didn’t confirm the other actors and drivers who would be involved.

All the way back in November 2025, F1 director Joseph Kosinski revealed to us that he’d love to work on a sequel to the 2025 blockbuster, and now, it’s been confirmed we’re getting a follow-up.

In an interview with PEOPLE at The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominees Night, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that a sequel to the film is already being worked on.

“We’re working on the story. It’s really good,” said Bruckheimer. “We’re talking to Lewis Hamilton. We’re getting it going through him and pitching him the ideas and see what he thinks.”

Bruckheimer held back from confirming if or not we’d see a return of Sonny Hayes (played by Brad Pitt), Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) or Rubén Cervantes (Javier Bardem), simply explaining, “We’ll see. I’m not going to tell you yet.”

It’s an exciting update following several months of speculation around a possible sequel to the hit film, but considering the success of the original F1 movie, it shouldn’t be surprising that a follow-up has been green-lit.

Against a solid budget of between US$200 million and US$300 million, it earned US$633.1 million at the box office to become Apple Studio’s highest-grossing film, as well as earning four Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.

What should we expect from an F1 sequel? Obviously, nothing has been confirmed yet; however, in an interview with Deadline, Kosinski offered a small window into what his ideal sequel would be.

F1 Movie Trailer (Main)

“I’d love to see what’s happened with the APXGP team and Joshua Pearce, and see how his career goes, so I would love to be able to tell another chapter in that story and it’s something we just started kinda dreaming about and it’s fun to be in this stage of imagining what that might be.”

“Right now, it’d be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise’s] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and [Brad Pitt’s] Sonny Hayes have a past,” Kosinski explained.

“They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview With a Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?”

The precise plot, cast, trailer, and release date are all still to be confirmed, but if you loved the F1 movie, the sequel is coming.
